How to Floss correctly

We all know we should floss, but let's be honest, it's not always the most exciting task. But fear not! With the right technique, flossing can be a breeze. Let's get flossing, folks!

Interdental cleaning is a fundamental aspect of oral hygiene. It involves removing plaque and food particles from the narrow spaces between teeth, areas that a toothbrush cannot effectively reach. By eliminating these harmful substances, interdental cleaning helps prevent a range of oral health issues, including gingivitis, periodontitis, and tooth decay. Regular and thorough interdental cleaning, whether through flossing or using interdental brushes, is essential for maintaining a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile.

Interdental Brushes vs Dental Floss

When choosing between interdental brushes and dental floss, consider factors such as the size of the gaps between your teeth, your dexterity, and personal preference. For individuals with larger gaps, interdental brushes may be the more effective option. However, for those with tight spaces between teeth, dental floss may be the better choice. It's important to consult with a dental professional to determine the best interdental cleaning method for your specific needs.

How To Floss Correctly -

Cut about 18 inches of floss and wind most of it around your middle fingers.

  1. Gently Insert: Carefully slide the floss between your teeth using a gentle back-and-forth motion. Avoid forcing it to prevent gum damage.

  2. Curve the Floss: Shape the floss into a C-shape around each tooth, ensuring it goes below the gumline. This cleans both the tooth and gum.

  3. Cleanse the Sides: Gently slide the floss up and down the side of each tooth.

  4. Rinse and Repeat: Rinse your mouth to remove debris, then repeat steps 2-4 for all your teeth, using a fresh section of floss each time.

Our hygienists recommend flossing in the evening before brushing.
