2020 - The Treatments Of The Year

With 2020 being a year far from normal, we found the year held a number of surprises.

Traditionally in January, we get a boost in patients seeking cosmetic treatments. The new year resolutions to make a change often includes a number of patients who wish to fix things they do not like about themselves.

Whiter Teeth, A New Smile, Straighter teeth are all things that boom during these months, but with the national lockdown and dental practices being closed, we found that many patients reflected on their oral health and made decisions to have treatments they had been hesitant about in the past.

These are in most cases not a vain decision made lightly but considered and judged based on the term “quality of life”. Some patients put up with a denture and missing teeth because they feel they did not want to spend the money on alternative treatments such as bridges and implants, but when faced with the prospect of not being able to eat comfortably and properly during the lockdown they realised how much of a loss it was not to have a functioning bite.

Some of us considered that life was too short - and that the risks of serious illness were closer to home than originally thought, so why hold off on getting the things you wanted? Whatever the reason, this last year we have had a number of inquiries and uptake in the following treatments.

  1. Teeth Whitening - Very popular and easy to do with new low sensitivity formulas introduced. You can whiten your teeth during the day - 60 mins only or at night time whilst you sleep.

  2. Teeth Straightening - With face masks on, and working from home, many patients found now the perfect time to straighten their teeth. ClearCorrect our invisible brace orthodontic aligner system allows you to straighten your teeth with very little impact to your home or working patterns. The aligners are changed every two weeks - you do this yourself and can be removed for mealtimes. We currently offer a video simulation on how we can straighten your teeth.

  3. Composite Contouring & Bonding - Teeth straightening is very popular, but it does not fix broken or chipped teeth. With all the video calls happening these days, there is a lot of focus on our teeth. Chipped and broken teeth really show up on the camera, so many patients have requested this treatment. What great is that we do this in 1 appointment and the results look amazing.

  4. Dental Implants - Not being able to eat properly can be soul-destroying for many people, and replacing missing teeth became a real priority for many people who spent lockdown at home not being able to eat meals comfortably. Dental Implants are a great way to give you back your fixed and natural-looking teeth.

  5. All on 4 Implants - The ultimate dental implant treatment as an alternative to full dentures. For patients with long-standing and generalised periodontal disease and loose-fitting dentures, this treatment has restored many people’s lives and improved their quality of living. This treatment is not for everybody and certainly not on the cheap side, but it is a very effective solution to a specific problem.

  6. Smile Makeovers With Veneers - this treatment is not for everybody, but if you want to have a great smile and not only improve the shape and colour of the teeth but also the position, then this is a fabulous option. Porcelain Veneers look very natural, are very strong, and are stain-resistant.

  7. eMax Ceramic Crowns - The number of cracked teeth we have seen since reopening has been significant. A lot of people have been punishing their teeth through grinding and clenching and unfortunately, the stress has caused teeth with large fillings to crack during this time. eMax ceramic crowns are highly aesthetic crowns that are fully ceramic and come in a variety of shades the many colours of peoples teeth. The wonderful aesthetics is backed by their incredible strength and very rarely do these crowns break. A wonderful material to use on cracked teeth.
